Dr Juan Carlos Velasco

Dr Juan Carlos Velasco is a philosopher and researcher based at the Instituto de Filosofía, a centre affiliated to the Spanish National Research Council (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas/CSIC). He has published extensively on the philosophy of law, ethics and politics, particularly on the subject(s) of human rights, justice and democracy. From 1993 to 1995, Dr Velasco was a Research Fellow at the Goethe-Universität under the supervision of Jürgen Habermas, on whom he has published two books. He  has served as a visiting lecturer at the Centre of Political and Constitutional Studies in Madrid. He is also interested in migration and multiculturalism and has led such research projects as ‘Políticas migratorias, justicia y ciudadanía’ (‘Migration Policies, Justice and Citizenship’) and  ‘Integración, participación y justicia social. Ejes normativos de las políticas migratorias. ‘ (‘Integration, Participation and Social Justice: Regulatory Axes of Migration Policies’) Since 2005 he has edited a blog on migration: Migraciones. Reflexiones cívicas (Migrations. Civic Reflections.)

Dr Velasco will be giving a keynote on  ‘En el marco del post-multiculturalismo. Claves ideológicas y sociológicas del discurso migratorio español ante la actual crisis económica /In the framework of post-multiculturalism. Ideological and sociological keynotes of Spanish migration discourse in the current economic crisis’ on Friday the 22nd February in the Council Room. The paper will be delivered in Spanish.
